Seth had just entered the kitchen and was about to tell everyone to get out and give Clary some space when Oliver reached for a cinnamon bun that was now dusted with sugar. But as his youngest brother did that, Aldric’s hand jostled Oliver’s arm, and the bun went flying.

It hit the refrigerator, imprinted powdered sugar on the steel surface, then dropped to the floor.

Everyone froze.

The sudden silence turned Clary’s head.

“Just pick it up,” Andrea said. “There’s more than enough food to go around.”

Clary nodded and turned back to the stove.

Still, none of his brothers moved.

Andrea frowned as she scanned the still-frozen faces. “What’s wrong?”

Clary looked over her shoulder again.

“I got it.” Seth moved forward, but Aldric picked the bun up off the floor and sank his teeth into it.

Today, Aldric’s eyes were gray. Aldric and Elton were the most similar in eye color, but it had been such a long time since Seth had seen Aldric’s eyes without his colored contacts that he couldn’t be sure.

Clary’s eyes widened. “Throw that away. There’s more than enough food.”

“Three-second rule,” Aldric said.

Andrea hopped off the edge of the counter she was sitting on. “I’m sure it’s been over three seconds.”

Clary shook her head and threw a dishcloth over to Aldric. “Make sure you don’t leave any sugar on the floor or fridge.”

“Oliver dropped it.” Despite complaining, Aldric stuffed what remained of the bun into his mouth and started wiping down the fridge.

“I saved you some.” Clary grabbed a mug of coffee off the counter and held it out to Seth.

“I’ll bring out the buns since I don’t trust the guys to do it.” Andrea grabbed the tray. “Get out of the way!”

“I want scrambled eggs,” Oliver said once Clary transferred the bacon onto a plate.

Aldric jerked his chin up. “I want sunny-side up.”

Seth made his way over to Clary. “Everyone takes whatever she makes.” He shot a glare at Oliver. “Bring out the fruit.”

Zane grabbed the plate of bacon.

Aldric got up and put the cloth down. “She asked us what we wanted.”

“I did.”

“Get out.” Seth stood next to the stove and sighed.

Clary chuckled. “I used to think this kitchen was pretty big. I guess you’re thinking it isn’t big enough.”

Zane came back into the kitchen. “Need anything else?” He dropped his gaze to Clary’s phone when the screen lit. His eldest brother’s brows drew together, but he didn’t say a word when they locked eyes. “I think you got it handled.”

Then Zane turned and left.

Clary cracked two eggs into the skillet, then cracked and whipped up another batch of eggs. “Are you sure you don’t have any preference?” she asked, pulling his attention back to her.

“Who ordered the other sunny-side-up?” he asked.
