Well that said it all really didn’t it?

But still, even if Paige took the attraction out of it, she wanted to help. She could use her access to the lists to do good. She’d been mulling this over for a few days. It made sense. She could look after Melanie, show her she cared, and actually make Melanie’s life easier in the process.

‘You’re going to look at it again now, aren’t you?’ Mya asked. ‘I want it noting down that we all disagreed with this.’

They all nodded. Then they all gathered around Paige. ‘Well go on then,’ Mya instructed. ‘What? We oppose this but seeing as how you’re doing it anyway then obviously, we’re going to help.’

Paige literally felt each of her friends curl around her so they could see her phone, and she hesitated. How many times had they all sat together like this? When Sophie was upset about Marcus that time. When Polly had hidden her career and they’d all crowded around her on the bed. They’d done something similar for Mya in Vegas when she wasn’t sure what to do about Smithy. It was clearly Paige’s turn to be looked after by the girls and she didn’t hate it. She didn’t like it, but she didn’t hate it.

Smiling at them all, she opened up the app. Sure, maybe this wasn’t fully ‘right’ but her intentions were honourable. She wanted to help. Melanie had been looking more and more exhausted of late. If she had a look she could maybe find a way of helping. That was her first priority.

‘OK. Here goes.’ Paige opened up the to-do list and of course it was on the last list she had looked at. The one labelled personal. Someone tutted, Paige thought it might have been Mya. Then she heard them all suck in a breath.

‘Ouch,’ Sophie mumbled next to her.

‘I thought you said, you showed her a good time,’ Mya said.

‘I did, she means not worth it as in me, I’m not worth it. Not worth the time. Not the sex.’

‘How can you be sure?’ Polly asked.

‘Because I know my way around a woman’s body, OK?’ Paige snapped back.

Paige looked back down at the phone and continued to click through the lists.

‘Business! Surely there is something you can help with there? You already run a successful bar?’ Sophie pointed out. ‘Oh, look she’s concerned about promo. I told her I would help with that. Hmmm.’ Sophie opened up her own calendar. ‘I get that she might not have time for a makeover, but I could just film an IG story or something in there. That might help initially. She wouldn’t even have to do anything,’ Sophie suggested. ‘I’ll text her now. Polly, are you free Saturday? We could all go for brunch.’

‘Oh, me too. Connie has told me all about it and I really want to see it,’ Mya said.

‘Oh yeah with us three all sharing on our socials that will be a massive help.’ Sophie nodded as she began to strategize. Paige watched on, her brow slightly furrowed. Yes, that was helpful, but that wasn’t something Paige would be able to help with.

‘Hang on, what’s this about Alfie?’ Polly asked.

‘She helps look after him. Her sister is a single mum and a surgeon, so she does a lot of childcare, some school run stuff and like three nights a week or something she picks him up from school and puts him to bed, that type of thing.’

‘But that could be time spent doing something else, right?’ Mya asked. ‘And you know this kid, yeah?’

‘Yeah, he’s one of the best dudes I know,’ Paige said.

‘Great, so why don’t you offer to babysit? If you need help at the bar, Sophie will go back. Won’t you, Soph?’ Mya suggested.

‘Erm, well actually . . .’ Sophie began.

‘I think that Sophie would rather help me babysit, for research purposes,’ Paige said.

‘What do you mean?’ Mya asked.

‘Hang on, are you and Marcus!? Oh my God!’ Polly started shouting.

‘No, we’re not, we’re just talking about protection at the moment, that’s all. Calm down. But yeah, we don’t exactly have lots of kids in our group so it would be nice to hang out with one for a bit.’

‘Alf is good,’ Paige said.

‘I’ll help at the bar,’ Mya said.

‘No! Sorry no, thanks Mya but it’s OK. I’ll sort it. Worst case, I’ll get Connie down there.’

‘So are we best asking or . . . ?’ Sophie started. ‘No, she’d say no, right?’
