Paige groaned, She could feel Melanie growing more wet even through the cotton and knew that she couldn’t hold off much longer.

‘Please Paige, I need more.’

Paige kissed Melanie hard, taking her groans and desperate pleas and instead moved her hand, thrusting two fingers into her and pressing down with her palm, pushing against her, and then she began to move slowly in and out.

‘Hell Paige, I’m so close. Don’t stop.’

Paige had no intention of that, wild dogs couldn’t pull her away. She was right where she needed to be, completely in the moment, completely focused on the task in hand as it were. She could feel Melanie trembling, her body rocking onto her hand, taking her in further.

‘Yes, yes, yes. Oh yes Paige.’

Melanie’s whole body tightened, and Paige felt her fingers squeezed by Melanie’s core, her thighs shaking until slowly her body began to soften as she all but collapsed, her legs not able to support her weight. Paige slowly disentangled her fingers, as Melanie’s head landed on Paige’s chest as she tried to catch her breath.

‘Oh my days, that was . . .’ Melanie was still breathless and wobbly as she looked up at Paige.

Paige moved closer until she was breathing and kissing and whispering into Melanie’s ear, ‘If it’s just tonight, I want it all. Don’t hold back. I want everything. I want you begging, I want you to tell me every little thing you’ve ever wanted to do or have done. I want all of it.’ Paige watched as Melanie’s eyes widened, her pupils dilated, and her breath shook again. Paige continued, ‘So don’t keep anything from me, I want to hear it all, I want to taste it all, I want to feel it all.’ Paige spoke at the same time her hand travelled up and down Melanie’s body.

‘Give me everything,’ Paige demanded.

Melanie licked her lips, her body still rolling beneath Paige, but she didn’t hesitate.

‘I want you to take it.’

Chapter Nineteen

Melanie

Of course, she was going to be late, of freaking course. There were few things that stressed Melanie out more than being late, especially when it could have been avoided. If she hadn’t overslept, then her day wouldn't have felt so rushed from the very second she opened her eyes. If she hadn’t had Paige in her bed for half the night, perhaps she wouldn’t have been quite so worn out, and maybe she wouldn’t have overslept. But then again she wouldn’t have had the best night of her life. And only part of her regretted kicking Paige out in the first place. But they had both agreed it was a one night thing. Done and done.

Anyway, here she was, living the girl boss dream. Scrabbling around the pavements trying to get everything that had seconds earlier fallen out of her bag that had decided there was no better moment to break. In the bag’s defence she had been pushing it to its very limits every day. She even had on her to-do list to order a new one. It probably should have broken a long time ago. But this was far from the ideal time. She reached under a car to try and get her phone, retrieved it with a grunt, before slowly standing up, gingerly holding her bag together and all of the contents she could recover. She was pretty sure she dropped a few tampons but the birds could have them now. As much as she was digitally minded, she still had supplies. Wet wipes, she had ’em. Post-its she had ’em. Nail file. Deodorant and so on. Laptop. In this case yes, she had managed to squeeze her laptop in as well as her iPad as she was hoping to sort out wages. So now she had her bag clutched to her chest, her arms aching with the weight, her head feeling dizzy with the rushing as she tried to jog in stilettos and a pencil skirt to the Neighbourhood Business Alliance meeting, wishing she’d chosen Converse today.

She turned and used her bum to push the door open, not even stopping to say hello to Kazim. She rushed through and made her way to the meeting room, panting as she went, not feeling at all in control of anything. The plates no longer spinning but throwing themselves to the floor today that was for sure.

And then of course there was Paige. Even now, Melanie stumbled as her eyes locked onto Paige’s. What had they done? Melanie felt like they’d gotten the attention of the goddess of love after their night of passion. Like she was being punished in some way with constant reminders, dreams, day-dreams and longing. Her mind would wander off constantly, and she’d see an image of Paige between her legs, or of Paige naked before her and so on. Her bedroom forever ruined. Whatever they were previously, had they been friends? For argument’s sake let’s say they had been friends, now it felt odd.

So of course, there she was. And there was a space right opposite. Fine. That was OK. She could be professional, and she could stay focused.

‘Ah here she is,’ Councillor Houghton called out. ‘We wondered where you had gotten to. Right anyway, Charlene as you were saying?’ Melanie landed in her chair and tried to carefully and quietly get her things together while listening to Charlene talk about a new retail space that was to become available. Melanie was trying to listen as she knew it was important, but she was still trying to hold her bag carefully so its contents wouldn’t spill again. She felt like a crisp eater at the theatre, rustling and chomping all over someone’s important monologue.

‘Well, will it be the same process as last time?’ Lydia asked.

‘Yes, yes. The protocol has been set up now. Anyone that wants to let that space will have to present their business proposal through us as we will have some sway. Not a lot, but in some cases enough. Just like we did with Melanie here.’

Melanie’s head shot up. She hadn’t really been paying attention but now her name was being called out. Shit. What was going on? Melanie was still sweaty from her impromptu stiletto jog. Her shoes were rubbing blisters into her toes, her skirt was awkward, her glasses sliding down her nose and she still held her bag in her hands.

‘You know what we don’t have a lot of in our part of the world?’ Paige asked, in what was one of the few times she’d heard her speak in this forum. ‘Charity shop or vintage clothes shop. It would really help with our sustainability and eco priorities.’

‘Yes,’ Councillor Houghton agreed. ‘Yes, let’s think green on this. I’ll coordinate this end. I dare say some of the unsuccessful applicants from last round will want to try again. But anyway, I’ll let you know when we have candidates for interview, and then we can figure out the who’s and when’s and whatnots.’

Ah, they were talking about when Melanie and Louisa had to come and present their ideas for Lulu in order to secure the lease. Fond memories of the first time she’d been intimidated by Paige. Strange to think it was only about six months ago.

There were nods around the table.

‘Right then great, well that brings us to our main agenda item for today, the art mural. Back over to you Melanie for the big update.’

The big what now? She’d seen the agenda, knew she was to give an update, but she’d presumed it was just a quick five-minute job. What in the bloody hell? She tried to swallow but her throat was suddenly dry, her heart racing as everyone turned to look at her. For some reason there was a large attendance today. Of course there was.

Melanie felt sick. All she could hear was the sound of plates smashing around her.
