“You need to hold it, don’t you?”

I whirled on her. Standing in the doorway, arms held overhead, she looked strikingly beautiful. Like the goddess of geeks.

“If you’re teasing me…”

“Go ahead,” she chuckled. “Open it.”

I moved slowly, removing the artifact with the care of a surgeon. I held it in my palm. My whole body shivered.

“This… this is a piece of history.”

“Sure is.”

I treated the moment as the religious experience it actually was. Then, reverently, I returned the piece to its protective case. Staring at it was like staring back through time.

“I knew you were a fan,” I swore. “But I had no idea you were this far into it.”

Harper crossed her arms and grinned. “Just wait ‘till you see the Lord of the Rings room.”

My jaw scraped the floor. “You have a Lord of the RINGS room?!”

“No,” she laughed evilly. “But wouldn’t it be awesome if I did?”

I spent the next twenty or so minutes touring her collection, with Harper pointing out any of the little details I might’ve missed. She was a woman after my own heart. Someone dedicated to all the same things I was, with brains and beauty to spare.

Beyond it all, there was an inherent sexiness about her that made my blood boil. It was the way she walked, the way she talked, the way she laughed her cute little laugh. I saw it in her eyes, whenever she’d look at me. I felt it in her touch earlier on, when her fingers lingered all over my body while hooking me up to the fruits of her labor.

One night. That’s all I’d had with her. One incredible, beautiful night…

And then she was gone.

“This would’ve been the guest room,” she said apologetically. “But obviously I got rid of the bed.”

“That’s okay.”

“Follow me to my room though,” she continued. “I should have all kinds of extra blankets and pillows somewhere in the closet.”

This certainly wasn’t a request she had to make twice. Harper led me into a small, cozy bedroom, decorated in neutral but warm tones. There were a few more dorky collectibles in here, as well. I recognized every piece.

“Nice Doomhammer,” I grinned, pointing. “World of Warcraft. Epic weapon replica.”

Harper returned a similar grin, obviously impressed. “I actually won that thing. It’s heavy as hell.”

She lifted it from its mount, and swung the big war hammer over her shoulder. By the way her body tilted, I could tell it was heavy.

“You wanna see my Doomhammer?” Harper teased. She was obviously enjoying herself.

“Well, you’ve already seen mine, so…”

“Here then.”

She swung it down, intending to give it to me handle-first, but it was just too heavy. Instead she pitched forward, crying out as the hammer slipped from her hands and thudded heavily to the floor. She would’ve been on the floor too, but I reacted too quickly and she ended up in my arms.

I wasted absolutely no time in kissing her.

Fuck…

She smelled like vanilla and sugar and all things delicious, as her hot mouth churned against mine. Harper was kissing me back so greedily, so furiously, I had to question whether she’d fallen in the first place, or simply flung herself willfully into my arms.
