I exhale my nerves before opening the door with a smile for...

Doug from the front desk.

“Hey, Doug,” I say in surprise.

“Hi, Paige.” He holds out an envelope. “This came for you. Marked urgent.”

I take it from him. “Oh, thank you,” I say.

“Have a good night,” he says as he steps back.

“You, too.”

I close the door, my curious eyes locked on the envelope. It’s the same old familiar Botsford Plaza stationery found in each suite around the world, though I can only think of one person whose been passing me notes like this lately.

I open the envelope and slide out the card.

Meet me on the roof.

I raise a brow at the ceiling. The roof?

I fetch my jacket from the closet before rushing into the hallway and boarding the elevator to the top floor. Once there, I head down the hall and take the stairs behind a door marked ROOF ACCESS.

A gust of cool wind greets me as I step outside. I pull my jacket even tighter around me, my eyes instantly drawn to the man standing near the edge of the building.

“You’re just in time,” Oliver says. He waves me closer. “Come on.”

“What are we doing up here?” I ask.

“Come on.”

I eye the edge of the building. “Oliver...”

“Come on.”

I chuckle at his enthusiasm. “Okay, I’m here,” I say as I stand beside him. “What?”

Oliver points at the horizon. “If you think Miami sunrises are great, then check this out,” he says.

I follow the path of his pointer, going quiet. The sun drops behind the snow-topped mountains, leaving the sky on fire with red and orange colors swirling amid purple stripes.

“Wow,” I whisper.

Oliver steps behind me and wraps his arms around my waist. We watch in silent wonder; the moment coming and going far too quickly. My heart races, utterly blissful at the thought that I get to experience this with him.

“See?” Oliver whispers in my ear. “I told you I’d be insufferable.”

I laugh. “It’s gorgeous.”

“Much better up close,” he says. “If you’re ever interested.”

I don’t dare turn my head and miss a moment of that orange sun falling away. When it finally vanishes, I spin around in Oliver’s arms and rest my hands on his shoulders.

“Sure,” I say.

“Yeah?”

“Yeah, we can take a weekend and go somewhere mountain-esque with... heat and running water.”
