I lean back to show her and her eyes open wide. Three black letters along my right ribs.

“Oh, my god!” she gasps. “You guys got tattoos?!”
“Yeah,” I answer.
“We got jewelry, but you guys got tattoos?!” She laughs as she reaches out, then pulls her fingers back at the last moment. “Did it hurt? I mean, obviously it does, but…”
“It hurt, a lot. But it was worth it.”
“I’ll say…” She touches the area around the letters instead. “It’s nice.”
“Thanks.”
“Sexy.”
I chuckle. “That’s the idea, I think.”
“Do we, um…” She hesitates to touch me again. “Should we wait, or…?”
I take a deep breath, fighting her essence from overwhelming my senses. Now would be the time to stop this. To tell her that yes, we should wait. Not just wait, but end it. To tell her she should forget about me and find someone else. It can’t ever be me.
I’m sorry, Dana. I lied.
