“No, thanks,” I say. “I’ve got brunch at the Beta Kappa house in...” I check my phone for the time as I slide off my stool, “thirty minutes, so I should head out. Courtney’s meeting me there. We’re going shopping with Violet after, but I should be back for dinner.”

“Ah!” Mom brightens. “That sounds fun.”

“Yeah.” I sigh. “It’s our last chance to hang with Court before she goes to New York.”

“Give her all our love.”

“I will.”

“The Beta Brunch?” Dad asks.

“I think that’s what they called it,” I say.“Yeah.”

He chuckles.

I glance at Mom, who merely shrugs.

“Go,” she says. “Drive safe.”

“Have fun, but also, honey...” Dad smothers his smile. “Would you take pictures for me?”

“Pictures?” I ask.

His lips twitch, his grin hard to control now. Not sure what he finds so hilarious about a bunch of girls sitting around eating bagels, but whatever.

“Okay. Bye.”

“Have a good day!” Mom shouts after me over the sound of Dad still laughing to himself.

CHAPTER 17

DANA

If you weren’t there to experience it yourself, you’d have no idea that Greek Row was home to a huge party last night. It’s like my first college party never happened at all. The streets are empty and open. The lawns are free of trash and party supplies.

The most pristine of them all is the Beta Kappa house.

As I approach the porch, the front door flies open. Courtney Morgan’s magnetic grin greets me, her arms wide open.

“Welcome!” she says, the hem of her black dress brushing her knees. “We’ve been expecting you.”

I climb the stairs. “Am I late?”

“No. Why?” Her smile deepens. “Are you feeling sluggish this morning?” she asks, the question an obvious wink-wink.

“Oh, just a little,” I say, faking a yawn.

“Speaking of...” Courtney holds out her hand. “Stickers, please.”

I reach into my jacket pocket for my notecard. She brightens at the sight of my many stickers, happy and proud.

“Look at you,” she says. “Ms. Popular.”

I shrug a shoulder. “I did okay.”

She throws her arm around my shoulders. “Well, come on inside. It’s time for brunch!”

Walking through the open doors of the Beta Kappa house is just as exhilarating as it was the first time. I’ve been here multiple times before, but the foyer gets no less breathtaking each time I see it. The floor plan is a copy and paste of the Delta Xi house in every way (though I’m not sure which house came first), but the Beta Kappas prefer a home with a little more... style.
