She smiles; the question ridiculous.
I kiss her soft lips.
All mine.
CHAPTER 39
DREW
I plow through the front door of Delta Xi, coming face-to-face with a roar of applause.
Another walk of shame, eh, Rose?
Damn, son.
On a roll this semester, huh?
I laugh it off and make my way upstairs. I spent the night with my dream girl. There’s not a damn thing that will throw a wrench in my step today.
Not one damn thing.
I walk into my room, the door already wide open. Seth sits at his desk in a t-shirt and jeans. He looks me up and down, his face blank as he notices my wrinkled suit.
“What’s up?” I greet.
“What’s up?” he repeats. “That’s all you got after you ditched me last night?”
Crap.
I knew this was coming.
Just be cool.
“What are you talking about?” I ask. “I was there.”
“No, you weren’t. Harvey saw you leave. And don’t tell me you were sneaking off with Jenna again because she was grinding on Jack the whole night.”
I close my mouth, out of excuses. “Look, Seth...”
“What’s going on with you, man?” he asks.
“Nothing.”
“Really? Because you’ve been a total flake all semester. Mostly, I’ve let it slide. I’ve got my own shit going on, too, but I didn’t think you’d do it last night.”
“I’m sorry,” I say. “Something came up.”
“What?” he asks. “What could possibly have been so important that you ditched a night we’ve been looking forward to for months?”
I swallow her name. “It’s complicated.”
“I’m sure it is.” He scoffs as he stands up. “Well, whatever it is, I hope it was worth it.”
He steps around me toward the door.
“Oh, come on, Seth,” I say, thinking fast. “Will you just chill for a second?”
Seth stops by the door.
