I’d start my new life tomorrow on the high seas.

I was about to turn and leave when I heard my name.

“Ruby!” Harmony Briggs waved from a booth in the far back corner.

Harmony had always been uber popular. She had eight older brothers who were all athletic, funny, and really, really hot. I hadn’t been surprised when I saw on social media that her two best friends, Cara and Destiny, had each married one of her brothers.

These friends had all messaged me separately when the video went viral. They hadn’t asked what happened, just wanted to know if I was okay. It meant a lot to me.

One drink, I told myself as I weaved my way through the tables to the back booth. I would stay for one drink.

“Hey, chickadee!” Harmony wrapped her arms around me in a friendly hug.

“Hi!” I smiled and waved as I slid into the booth beside Cara.

Destiny was seated across from me, sandwiched between Harmony and a brunette I’d never seen before.

“Ruby, this is Kelsi; she is married to Bryson,” Destiny made the introduction.

Bryson O’Sullivan’s family owned The Tipsy Cow. His father had run the bar when I lived in town, but I’d seen on social media that he’d taken over ownership a few years back.

“Hi, nice to meet you.” I smiled and then scanned the rest of the table.

“Hey, Ruby!” Kenna Hale appeared at the side of the booth. She was a few years older than me and had dated Remi off and on in high school. We followed each other on social media, so I knew she worked at the bar, but I’d forgotten. “I heard you were back in town. How are you?”

“Good!” I enthused. “How are you?”

“Good. We’re slammed tonight, but I’d love to catch up soon.”

I agreed. Then she took my order before heading back to the bar.

“Kenna used to date your brother, right?” Harmony asked.

“Yeah,” I confirmed.

“How’s Remi doing?” Harmony took a sip from her drink.

“He’s good. Busy.” I’d played phone tag with him all week and still hadn’t managed to speak to him. He was fighting a big fire in the Lake Tahoe area.

“Is he still out in California?” Cara asked.

“Yeah.” I nodded.

“I used to have a huge crush on Remi Rhodes.” Harmony sighed to Kelsi.

“You had a crush on everyone,” Destiny grinned.

Harmony didn’t deny it. “Is he still with that one chick? The model?”

“Misty. Yep. They are engaged.”

“They’ve been engaged for a while, huh?” Harmony followed up.

“Um…” I hadn’t really thought about it, but yeah. “For about five years, I think.”

“Five years?” Harmony repeated. “What’s the holdup?”

“I don’t know.” I shrugged.
