Stillness creeps back in, and I internally thank our resolve again as we’ve managed to either pull out or use a condom ever since that first time.

“Oh, fuck, Liv. Good morning, indeed.”

I laugh. “Well, we should both definitely take a shower now and maybe have some breakfast before I have to go meet Becca.”

Noah leans forward, kissing my neck, and then we both take turns in the shower so some actual cleaning can get done.

Leaving the house is, of course, a challenge, and Noah and I fool around some more before I’m finally able to get in my car and head to the bistro.

I’m earlier than Becca this time, and I place an order for a BLT and fries. Noah has certainly helped me work up an appetite, and I smile to myself as I sip my iced tea.

After a few minutes of waiting, Becca shows up and joins me at the shady table on the restaurant’s back patio.

“Hey, girl! Thanks for meeting me again. I’m so glad you didn’t make me wait forever.”

Becca smiles and gives me a hug over the table. She looks like she’s dressed to go to work later today, and I tell her that I ordered.

“Cool. If you see that waiter, flag him down. I can’t stay too long because I have to head into the store, but what’s up? How’s nannying?”

“It’s good.” I cross my legs under the table, and the gentle soreness between my legs makes my heart soar. “Elijah is actually with his mom this weekend. So I’m basically off and just helping Noah with things as he needs.”

Her eyebrows raise, and she nods. “Oh, alone with the boss all weekend? Girl, didn’t we talk about how bad an idea that is?”

I swallow my tea in a big gulp and realize too late that I’ve been quiet for too long.

“Wait. Are you actually…”

Becca’s words trail off, and I can feel the heat in my cheeks burning that terrible bright pink that I can do nothing to hide.

“Liv!”

I swat my hands through the air and look around at the other patrons who’ve been startled by Becca’s shout.

“Keep it down, Becca. We’re in public.”

She glares at me. “You are the last person who should be giving me notes about proper decorum.”

Guilt and embarrassment bleed through my entire being, and my chest pinches tightly. I can barely make eye contact with her, and Becca tsks at me.

“I can’t believe that you, of all people, are actually sleeping with your boss. He’s, like, a hundred and your dad’s buddy. Do you not see the layers of complicated this is?”

Burying my face in my hands, I speak through my fingers, my voice muffled.

“Of course I do. It’s not like I planned this. And he’s not a hundred. Noah is…”

Becca waits for me to find the words but hits me with a glare the entire time.

“He’s amazing. He’s charming and handsome. He’s trying so hard to be a good dad through all this divorce stuff, and helping him has been so rewarding.”

“Well, hell. Loaded, gorgeous, and a fixer-upper. You got yourself quite the project to schmooze for tips, don’t you?”

“It’s not like that!”

This time I’m the one to raise my voice, and I have to take a minute to collect myself. The waiter drops off both our meals, but neither of us digs in right away.

Becca sighs. “So, what’s it like, then?”
