His face was a mixture of hostile and sympathetic. There was a fight inside of him, trying to decide if he wanted to kiss me or put me on the sink counter and spank me red, and honestly, I was game for both.

“Why the hell did you run off like that? You wanted me to chase? That was your game?”

“No.” I was running away from him; I was running from the bomb that ticked off in my heart.

“Do you know how stupid that was? Everybody knows I went home to follow you. How do you think that looked, Cat? Do you think your mother bought that excuse about Gino telling me to watch you at all times? Because I don’t think she did.” It seemed like the hostility was winning. “You make me play a dangerous game, and for what? Because you think you know what jealousy is?”

That made me explode. Think? Even after having him burry his face between my legs, for Hugo, I was still that clueless girl hanging to the leg of her brother’s best friend.

I pushed myself up and scowled to match his expression.

“Then why did you come after me? I didn’t ask you to. If I’m this gullible creature who can only bring you trouble then what are you doing here?”

He stepped forward, trapping me between him and the bathroom wall, then reached his hand to touch my bottom lip. The softness washed over his features again, and I felt I was facing Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

“I told you already. I can’t stand to see you sad, princess. You stormed out, and on my mind was just one thing – find you and bite these pouting lips of yours. Vito stopped me on my way out; he tried to convince me to stay for another bottle, and I almost punched him in the face. I would have taken the kid out with one hit. All to get to you.”

My chest was raising up and down while I was listening to his barbaric avowal. I wanted him to turn all savage for me. It was only fair when I was sliding more and more into a slavish hunger for him. He called me princess – royalty – but I was at his feet.

“You have me cornered now. What are you gonna do about it?” I traced the line of his jaw with my finger.

“You want to push me.”

“I want to face The Monster.”

The fire burning in my eyes was reflecting into his, and when I pulled him to me, I heard a growl in his throat. To stop him from protesting again, I grabbed his shirt and ripped it open, making the buttons fly everywhere. As soon as his chest was uncovered, I put my hands on him, feeling the beating of his heart.

“Cat, I need to get you out of this fucking dress.”

“You don’t like it?” My voice was sweet as honey, and I fluttered my lashes like they were butterfly wings.

“I like it too much. It drives me crazy. You can’t wear it in public anymore.”

“What?”

He didn’t give me an answer; instead he paid me back splitting the top of my dress clean open while I was gaping at him. I couldn’t believe he just destroyed my dress. My very pretty, very expensive dress.

“Damn it, Hugo, it had a zipper.”

“Shut up. Take it off,” he said while tugging on the material, and I helped him, pushing it down and standing there in the black, lacey lingerie.

The bra and thong were not covering much, but instead they had multiple straps curling around my body, creating an erotic effect. Monique insisted I couldn’t leave her shop without it, and it seemed her well-versed woman expertise was useful because Hugo was looking at me like he was a hungry lion, and I was the gazelle.

“Turn around,” he growled, and when I did, he pushed me flat into the wall, pressing one hand on my back and taking the other down to my ass.

He grabbed a handful, then slapped me hard enough to make me gasp.

“Ouch!”

“Hush.” He traced my curves with one finger. “You’re going to whimper a lot tonight. You wanted to play with matches, Cat? Now you have to walk through the fire.”

Effortlessly, I was picked up and thrown over his shoulder, only to land on the bed seconds later. He was at the edge of the bed, standing over me like a tyrant trying to decide what to do with his prisoner.

“Come down here and kiss me.”

Our lips locked, and I wrapped my limbs around him like I was a climbing plant on an old building. My arms were around his neck, my legs around his waist, there was no space between us, but still, I didn’t feel we were close enough.
