"Oh my God, is it like this every day? You boys are exhausting; no wonder my brain erased all this shit. This means a lot coming from me. I come from a Cuban family. Do you know what the national language of Cuba is?"

Wendy looks at Tatiana, shrugs and answers:

"Spanish?"

"No, it's yelling. Now, Zachary, can I have my daughter back?"

Rita's words knocked the air out of everyone, and I was grateful there was no outburst.

"Sure, just...just take care of her, alright?"

"Of course, I will. What, you think my memory can get in the way of me being a good..." I knew she wanted to say the word mother, but Zach cut in.

"No, I'm not. Rita, we're family here, and that means you are family." These kinds of soft words were something we didn’t get from Zach very often. And he might have been talking to Rita, but he was looking at me. He had my back. "This kid is the only thing I treasure more than London. I get crazy when it comes to her"

"Good. So it checks out that I like you. Probably love you, like family of course."

She picked up Chelsea, and the baby put her little head on Rita’s chest, nestling into her immediately. That made Zach soften and melt in his seat.

"So, Rita, now that you made peace with my jackass boyfriend, will you do the threesome with Wendy and Jessica?"

"I might."

"Like hell you will." I knew we were just joking around, but I was pulling the stops. "Jessica, stop, don't put ideas in her head that take me off the table. And now that you're talking about this, when will you stop bullshitting yourself? You always talk about your free pass to a threesome, but you couldn't find anyone in the great city of Chicago that you liked." Like we all didn’t see right through her. "Jess, you can't bring yourself to sleep with anyone else, and you sure as hell can't share Wendy with anyone else."

"Ugh, fine, I don't want a threesome."

And look at me, the CEO of distracting people away from my personal life.

"You don't, Jess? But you're the one who gave me the idea to give you the free pass."

"I know because I thought it would be fun, but I don't...you're my wife. Ugh, I used to be the fun one in the relationship."

"I love you too, Jess. I'm not crazy about seeing you with another woman either. That's why I'm taming all your bold offers."

"That's why I throw them in people's faces, to scare them off!"

"So how about instead we take a weekend off in Napa Valley and make a good twosome."

And they kissed and made up. Jess and Wendy were like a chick flick, feisty and adorable to watch. Like right now, we were all mesmerized by them.

"Stop gawking at us." Jess pointed her finger around the table. "It's a blessing to wake up every morning next to this woman."

"I know exactly what you mean." Rita's words brought me back to the ground. I looked at her, and she cupped my cheek. "We'd better be going and let you all do your jobs, but I'll wait for you with dinner."

"Love, I'm afraid I won't be home until midnight."

"Then I'll take my lunch at nine tonight and wait for you to have a very late dinner together."

Right then, I was very close to shouting from the bottom of my heart that I damn fucking loved her, but I was never one to act before thinking. I did need to think about the implications of this.

I kissed her, then I went ahead to plant a kiss on Chelsea’s head and everyone made a collective ‘aww’ sound...but when I looked back, I noticed that London's eyes were glued to Zach's profile. That by itself was nothing unusual, but there was something different now. And then she spoke:

"Let's get married."

At the sound of her voice, we all got quiet, and Zach snapped his head towards her.

"I think you already said yes, baby. Wait...you mean you want to set a date?"
