It’s Friday, the self-imposed deadline for finding Jasper and despite my pleading, Nico is adamant about going out there to find my ex. A dark chuckle rumbles his chest. “No, I promise you’ll like this present much more.”
“All right, you two,” Rose interjects and scoots between us. “Get out of here, Nico, or I’ll be babysitting all day.”
I toss my friend a scowl. “Hey!”
“I’m just kidding, Maisy, you know I love you.” She turns to Nico and practically shoves him out the door. “Now, you, I could do without.”
Nico snarls but allows his new sister-in-law to shoo him out all the same after one last quick kiss. Just a few days and Rose has all the brothers wrapped around her little finger. She’s incredible.
The moment the door closes behind Nico, I elbow my friend in the side. “I want to be you when I grow up.”
She lets out a cackle and throws her arm around me. “You already are, Mais. I never thought I’d see the day when Nico and Dante weren’t at each other’s throats. You did that.”
I did, didn’t I? A swirl of satisfaction momentarily stifles the impending sense of doom. I grab my mug off the island and wrap my fingers around it, allowing the warmth to soothe me.
Marco strolls into the foyer in nothing but low-slung sweatpants and drags his hand through his messy hair. In the short time I’ve come to know Nico’s twin, I’ve discovered he lacks Nico’s penchant for suits. The less clothes the better for this Rossi brother.
Rose gives him an appreciative once over, and I can hardly blame her. Marco may like to show off his body, but it’s well earned. Nothing but carved abs, tan skin and dark ink go on for miles.
“Ugh, I need a coffee,” he grumbles.
“We’re out, sorry, I just gave Rose the last cup.” My friend shoots him a cheeky grin and holds up her mug.
“You’re scavengers both of you.” He shoots us a glare before a yawn parts his lips. “Do you know how late I was up last night? There’s no way I’ll be in full-functioning guard duty capacity without my caffeine.”
“Where were you anyway?” I ask. I’d been up late myself, unable to tear my eyes away from Nico long after he fell asleep.
