Her limbs were heavy. Darkness was calling to her. Fighting it seemed useless. Her eyelids started to droop. Looking down, she frowned in confusion when a knife sliced through Roach’s boot, sinking into his foot. A howl of outrage made her shudder as the arm holding her up slid away, and she fell to her knees. The sound of a gun going off and Ladybug falling into the dirt made her sway to the side. The sight of Roach’s lifeless body was the last thing she saw before the darkness won.

“Rose,” Warren called as he knelt beside her. “Son of a bitch. Petal, open your pretty eyes and look at me.”

He cradled her to his chest and stood. Warren needed to get her out of the heat. Racing to his truck, he placed her gently on the passenger seat and slid the seat belt across her. He rounded the truck to see Tank’s guys gathered around Roach. They stripped his cut from his body.

“Keep their phones,” Warren ordered. “Burn it all. Three wasn’t their entire crew. Spread out. Search everything. Take anything that was theirs. None of them see tomorrow.”

No one questioned his commands. He waited by the truck to keep watch over Rose while they loaded Lucas’s body into one side-by-side and Cooper’s in the other. Roach’s lifeless body was tossed on the ground between them both.

Warren’s soul demanded the honors. They harmed his reason for living. They bruised her face, held a gun to her head, hurt her heart, and made blood run freely from the cuts on her hands. Each one paid for their stupidity with their life. Sending them to hell was the only option that would soothe his inner demon. Warren needed one more thing. Grabbing a can of gasoline from the bed of his truck, he prowled forward. It was time to finish.

Warren doused the bodies until the can was empty and tossed the can on the pile. He had no idea who handed him the matches. The only thing he could see was the retribution he needed to soothe his soul. The men went back to their bikes as he struck the match.

“You touched what was mine,” he ground out between clenched teeth as he dropped the match.

Fire roared to life as the sound of straight pipes filled the air. He wanted to stay and watch them burn, but Rose needed him more. Striding back to the truck, the first battery blew. Warren smiled when he felt the heat scorch his back. Bikes surrounded his truck as they drove away. He never looked back when an explosive fireball lit the sky. They no longer mattered. All that mattered was the woman beside him.

Tank was waiting at the door of the clubhouse when Warren parked his truck. He flipped the console up and slid Rose across the seat into his arms.

“Where are my men?”

“Sent them to find the rest of Cooper’s crew.”

“Bodies taken care of?”

Warren nodded.

“Put her in your room. Brooks is in the room across the hall.”

Warren placed her gently on the bed. Vulture was waiting for them.

“What happened?”

“Roach had her with a gun to her head. He thought he was going to take her from me.”

“Fucker,” Tank growled. “It was him all this time. I assigned him to watch her.”

“He betrayed us all,” Vulture’s voice promised death. “He dead or in the cabin?”

“Wasn’t leaving it to someone else. He touched her.”

Vulture nodded in understanding.

“Franny said Lucas knocked her out. She wasn’t sure how long Rose was unconscious. Safe to say she has a concussion, dehydration, exhaustion, and some other shit. Got the good doc coming to check them over.”

Warren nodded, keeping a careful watch over Rose. He couldn’t take his eyes off her. When he did, the rage threatened to overwhelm him. The past year had been for nothing. Guilt ate at him.

“Boss,” Brooks stumbled through the door.

“Chasing pussy, and you got yourself drugged.”

“Wrong,” Brooks fired back. “Roach said one of the girls saw something and needed help. I was headed out the back door as she ran in. Bimbo bitch babbled on and on about how she snuck out to warn us because they thought they saw someone prowling around the place. I never saw who stuck me from behind.”

“Roach,” Tank spat in disgust. “Jesus. He had full access to both of them. No one ever suspected him.”

“She in the cage?” Warren asked.

“Locked in and strung up. Can’t move a muscle.”
