Ben took her hand, kissed her palm, and placed it back over his heart.

Her jaw dropped. He just kissed her palm like it was the most natural thing in the world. The man showed up two days ago. Two days. She was dreaming. That’s what it was. She was still asleep. All this manly domination was a product of too much tequila and lack of sleep.

Jake cleared his throat. “Angelina and I met on a dating site for professionals.”

“Delete that account,” Ben rumbled.

“What?”

“Delete it, or I will. No need to be out looking for strange when you can ride on my cock anytime you want.”

She wasn’t dreaming. She was sitting on Ben’s lap in her kitchen. Holy shit.

“Moving on,” Jake grinned. “We agreed to go on a date at Max’s restaurant so he could keep his possessiveness in check. Angelina was cute as a button and fit the bill for what I needed. We came to an agreement that she would pose as my girlfriend.”

“Are you hearing yourselves?” Ben questioned. “If you don’t want to be with him-”

“God no,” Jake interrupted Ben. “Max is my better half. We are engaged.”

“You needed a girlfriend? Why?” Ben looked at Jake and then at Max.

Max slid two plates onto the island. He placed two forks on the plate in front of Ben and two in front of Jake. Ben recognized it for what it was—a territorial move. Max’s place was with Jake. Angelina was with him. They all recognized it. The way Angelina looked at him said she might need a little more convincing.

“Eat up, Shorty.”

Angelina tried to slide off his lap, but Ben’s hold tightened.

“You stay with me. I didn’t forget about dinner last night.”

“My father is a very influential man. A pompous, hypocritical ass with a persona loved by millions of people. He has his greedy little fingers in everything from local politics to foreign evangelism.”

“He’s not a fan of his son being gay,” Max grumbled.

“Fuck him,” Ben shrugged. “You seem like you are doing well for yourself. You owe him money?”

“God forbid,” Jake sighed dramatically. “His television show would suffer if it came out that his son was marrying another man. People in this town know I am with Max. Most don’t care. My father keeps his head buried in the sand.”

“You need to eat,” Max interrupted him.

“Still not getting the point,” Ben muttered.

“Wow, love of my life, this is good.”

“His father starts bitching and will not let him alone about not marrying a woman. He harasses Jake at work, at home, and online; it never ends. People won’t go against him because of who he is. Once a year or so, Jake meets up with a nice woman for a date or two. The old man shuts up. He leaves us alone, his business alone, and his mother alone.”

“Sounds like an ass,” Ben said, offering Angelina a bite. “I know a few people. I can make a few calls and never say another word about it as long as you never take my soon-to-be wife on a date again.”

Angelina coughed, gasping for breath. Max nodded, considering the idea. Jake sat stunned.

“What? Tell me the world wouldn’t be a better place with one less piece of trash.”

“You should keep him,” Max winked at her.

“Cheez Whiz.”

“Just a thought,” Ben shrugged like it was no big deal.

“Your mom might be down with that,” Max voiced his opinion.
