“Is this the one that lady called about? The Superbee?” Mav choked out.

“Yeah, Kid, it is. It has been sitting in her barn for the past thirty years. This car is going to need a lot to get it running, but she will be worth it.”

Mav ran his hand across the hood. Shaking his head, he looked at Reese and Pappy. “It was all Cash’s idea, baby,” Reese told him.

Her tears broke free when Mav hugged Cash in a fierce man hug. Cash looked to be fighting his own emotions as he hugged her son.

“That is what a father looks like, girlie,” Pappy whispered to her.

Reese stood back, giving them their moment. When Mav released Cash, he turned to her, wrapping her in a rib-cracking hug. “Thanks, Mom. I love you so much.”

“Love you too, baby,” Reese replied before he turned her loose.

He hugged Pappy after his mother. Mav walked back into the garage with Pappy following behind him. They chatted excitedly about all the things they planned to do to the car and what color they should paint it.

Cash strolled happily over to where she stood, watching them. “So, tell me, Beautiful, was a ’68 Superbee a good birthday gift? Am I going to be getting what you promised me this morning?”

“When did you buy it?”

“Not long after I moved in here. A lady called the garage one day and wanted to know if I would be interested in it. Picked it up for next to nothing. The title is in my name, but we can get it changed into his.”

Reese put her fingers to his mouth, cutting him off. “You got my son a car before you knew it would work out with me?”

Cash nodded and kissed the tips of each of her fingers pressed against his lips.

“You knew it would be something he would love. You took on trying to keep Pappy out of trouble without saying a word. You kept after me until I let you in.”

“Beautiful, I love you,” Cash told her, kissing her lips.

“Those are only some of the reasons why I love you.”

“You love me?”

“Yeah, I love you,” Reese giggled.

“No more fighting me about what I want to buy you?”

“Oh no, that is going to happen,” Reese assured him.

Stepping back, Reese thought for sure he was going to be irritated with her. She wasn’t prepared for Cash to pull a box from his pocket. Her eyes flew from the box to his face and back.

“I am not asking, Beautiful. I am not begging, and I am not going to demand, but I am offering to love you for the rest of my life. Reese, I want you to be my wife, the other part of me. I want to officially make us a family, not just because we all live in the same house. I want to be tied to you for the rest of my days. From the first time you bitched at me for talking to Mav, I knew you were going to be it for me. Woman, I love you more than I have ever loved anything. Every day with you is a gift I intend to cherish. I want to wake up with you at the god-awful hour of three am just to have coffee with you before we start our day. I want to have dinner with the family every night. I want to see what life has in store for the kid and take my turn to pick up Pappy from the police station. I want it all, and I can only see it with you. What do you say, Beautiful? Want to have a life with me?”

“You want all that with me?”

“I want it all,” Cash confirmed, opening the box in his hand. “I had this made for you. The diamond in the middle is for us. The stones around it are everyone’s birthstones. It is a family ring and an engagement ring all in one.”

“Oh, it is perfect,” Reese gaped at the stones in the ring as they caught the light from the garage, sparkling brilliantly.

“Was that a yes?”

“Yes, it was a yes. I love you so much,” Reese didn’t wait for him to put it on her finger. She jumped into his arms, kissing him.

“Thank god,” Cash murmured in between kisses. “I want to take you upstairs and get to that thing we talked about in the kitchen this morning.” Easing away from her enough to slip the ring on her finger, he pulled her tight against him again as she admired it.

“We haven’t had cake yet,” Mav called from the garage.

“How long do we have to keep the kid? Two more years, right?” Cash asked sarcastically.
