“The bathrooms are ahead and on the right,” she whispered tearfully, touching his face. “It’s going to be okay, remember? We promised each other.”

“I’ll send you an email as soon as I get back to base. I promise.”

“I believe you.”

“Let’s start thinking about where or when we’re going to meet up again, okay?”

“I need to look at my schedule, check court dates, and…”

“I want to see you again,” he repeated nervously, looking at her in almost a panic. “This isn’t a joke or a suggestion. I want to see you. Heck, I want us to go on a honeymoon, Elana.”

“I know, because you want to…”

“It’s not that,” he replied in a hushed, terse whisper. “I want everything from you, and I want to give you every part of me. I want a relationship – and part of that relationship is sweeping you away somewhere so we can be alone together.”

“I’m not saying no…”

“I feel like you are withdrawing from me.”

“I’m trying not to get my hopes up because you are leaving. It’s protecting myself mentally…”

“Kitten, get your hopes up – throw ‘em sky high because I’m all in. I want this, I want you, and I’m trying my best not to cry like a sissy-baby in front of you right now.”

“Max…”

“I cannot believe you are the guy in the relationship, and I’m the emotional girl…”

“Okaaaay…?” she drawled, laughing softly. “Would you feel better if I was panicking or crying my heart out?”

“Maybe?” he retorted openly – and then sighed. “No. I would feel awful because your tears do something to my soul. I don’t want you to cry, but I am trying to keep from breaking down.”

“Sir,” a police officer said nearby. “You’re holding up the line for security. Are you ready to go through?”

“No,” Max said glibly and Elana touched his cheek, catching his attention as she looked at him tearfully.

“Go,” she whispered softly. “I don’t want you to miss your flight or get in trouble – and I’ve got to get to the office in a bit so I have time to fix my makeup.”

“Why? You look stunning.”

“Cause I feel my own meltdown coming,” she admitted tearfully. “Just kiss me and write to me when you get on base.”

Max grabbed her desperately, pulling her to him, as he kissed her fiercely, hanging on to this moment and savoring the taste of her lips, and heaven help him, she kissed him back with just as much passion. Her hands were in his hair, and he was clinging to her before a throat was cleared loudly nearby once again.

“Sir? If you would please…”

“Go,” Elana ordered softly, breaking the kiss and gently rubbing her nose against his in an Eskimo kiss. “Let’s look at going somewhere romantic.”

“You got it,” he said hoarsely – and she stepped back from him, slowly turning away, and he saw her stop, her shoulders shaking as she put her face down in her hands.

Max cursed, starting to climb over the rope to get out of line – only to see her turn to him, tears streaking down her cheeks.

“Don’t miss your flight,” she ordered tearfully. “I’m just going to miss your ornery hide, okay?”

And he heard several people in line chuckle at her words.

“Yeah, well, I’m gonna miss your sexy butt… so there!”

A tearful smile appeared on her face, and he nodded before turning back to go through security, and he felt his stomach rumble again. Like it or not, he was going to need to find a bathroom – and quickly.
