“Yup. Manly, manly lips.”

“Hmm…”

“You should try them,” he invited, smiling up at her.

“Perhaps I will…”

Elana sighed, content to be cuddled against Max’s side. She had finally convinced him to remove the handcuffs and the chains around his hips so that he could sleep a little more comfortably. They had kissed and talked for hours, just like a pair of love birds snuggling against each other on a branch. She adored the way he made her laugh, how silly he could be and the way he would kiss her palm before grinning like a loon and pointing out his name on her wrist almost every single time.

“Have I mentioned that I like that?” he taunted. “My call sign on my wife is the best thing ever.”

“I’m partial to you having my name on your arm.”

“I’d get it tattooed on my backside if you wanted… but please don’t make me because I want no one behind me trying to read.”

“Oh my gosh, Max…” she laughed and tucked her head under his chin as he gathered her close. “This is so nice. I like you holding me.”

“I like this too.”

“You don’t mind?” she asked, hesitating. That certainly wasn’t a typical wedding night, but if anything, she valued these moments more because there was something so special in being alone with the man you cared for. It was like they were in their own private bubble where no one could interrupt.

“I kinda am enjoying this, believe it or not,” he whispered against her hair, dropping a kiss on her forehead. “Don’t get me wrong, I would rather spend hours making love to you… but I think maybe you were right.”

“Could you repeat that?”

“You were right,” Max chuckled in amusement, kissing her forehead once more. “I don’t have a problem admitting it. My sweet kitten is wicked smart, and I should just defer to you – by the way, that is a real man talkin’, you know. Some guys wouldn’t admit that, but not me.”

She laughed softly, leaning up to kiss the bottom side of his chin.

“See, the way I look at it, my bride becomes emotionally attached to me, falls madly in love with me, and then is completely denied my presence for a few months – to which she’ll eventually be so hot and bothered like an animal in heat…”

“I assure you,” she blurted out, laughing wildly. “I am not going to be ‘hot’ and ‘bothered’…”

“Yeah, you will,” he laughed, hugging her. “It’s okay. It’s natural, and I totally forgive you.”

“For what?”

“Tackling me and ripping off my pants…”

“WHAT?!”

“It’s okay – I really don’t mind, if you want to have your wicked way with me in paradise when we go on our honeymoon.”

“Are you hallucinating?”

“Wishful dreaming,” he sighed – and then winked at her. “Where do you want to go?”

“I’m not ripping off your pants – and where do you come up with these ideas?”

“My active imagination.”

“And you imagine me ripping off your pants?” she balked in disbelief.

“Shhh… let a lonely man dream,” he said, hugging her once more, and she felt his chest shaking, realizing he was teasing her and laughing.

“You are not right in the head,” she muttered, settling in and sighing.

“Kitten, you have the sweetest pillow talk,” he whispered. “Rest your eyes, hon. It’s nearly three in the afternoon and I slept awful. How about we take a little nap?”
