“You don’t even know if I’m off work or what my schedule is.”

“Call in sick, lame, or dead…”

“I can’t just…” she began, only to have him give her a wink as he smiled.

“We’re getting married tomorrow,” he replied. “I picked the day; you pick the time… and just remember that life is going to be good between us.”

“You know I still think this is crazy, right?”

“I know.”

And he opened the passenger side door, surprising her.

“You aren’t even going to kiss me or make some crude suggestion that revolves around your pants, trying to tempt me into more?”

“Nope,” he chuckled, getting out of the car and leaning down to smile at her. “I’m going to be a perfect gentleman.”

“I don’t think that’s possible.”

“Then we’ll find out together.”

“Why are you doing this and being all… weird.”

“You make me want to be a better person,” he replied simply – and closed the door, leaving her flabbergasted as she stared at his departing form and saw the interior light come on in the truck as he climbed in.

He was actually leaving.

Sighing in aggravation at how ornery he was, how infuriating, and how much of a pest he could prove to be sometimes, she started her car and saw her phone light up within the interior of her purse on the dark floorboard of the car. Reaching over, she picked it up and looked at the screen.

Text me when you get home safely… okay?

If you wear white tomorrow, wear something nasty underneath so I can at least fantasize about what it would be like since we aren’t crossing the finish line yet.

“Oh my gosh,” she chuckled in disbelief – only to hear her phone ding once more.

I adore your smile

Elana looked up to see that he’d rolled down the truck window and was looking at her in the dark, only illuminated by his phone and the lights on the dash. She rolled down her window and looked at him, leaning over… and smiled.

“I’m wearing a white shirt now – and my bra is pink with bows on it,” she taunted, tossing him a ‘teaser’ knowingly. Max had surprised her several times in the brief time she’d been with him, being an absolute gentleman in action and deed – even if he wasn’t with his words most of the time.

“Thank you for that mental image,” he groaned aloud, closing his eyes. “I’m sooooo going to be thinking about that.”

“Thank you for being somewhat sweet in a weird, backhanded way.”

“Don’t stand me up,” he said, opening his eyes and looking at her. “I’m a horrible person, but I promise I’ll be good to you – just give me a chance.”

“I said I would do this – and I will,” she smiled. “Just try to tone down the ‘horrible,’ okay?”

“Don’t make me lie to you,” he began. “I’m not sure if I have that in me, but I’ll try – just for you.”

“That’s all that I’m asking,” she chuckled, amused at his brutal honesty. “Oh, and wear the fancy uniform,” she instructed. “If we are making suggestions on each other’s attire – I like the uniform.”

“I look hot, don’t I?” he grinned.

“You’ll do,” she replied blandly, knowing it would goad him… and sure enough, his mouth fell open before he laughed aloud, realizing she was teasing him too. “See you tomorrow, flyboy.”

“You got it.”
