“Nah, I really didn’t expect you to because you are super-sexy and classy.”

“What the heck is that supposed to mean?” she gaped in shock at the narrow-minded viewpoint he suddenly had. He could talk about men being butch ‘girlfriends’ in prison but suddenly had issues with her having a tattoo?

“What’d I say?”

“So because I dress nice and keep a professional image – I’m not allowed to have a tattoo?”

“Well, um… do you?”

“That’s none of your business.”

His eyes widened as he looked her up and down.

“Kitten, seriously… I need to know. Do you have a tattoo? I don’t see one visible? Is it under your clothing? Please say it is…”

“Do you? Or is this some wild phase you are going through?”

“Oh no, babe… my wild phase hit when I was much younger,” he chuckled easily, shaking his head. “But you didn’t answer my question.”

“I’m not going to either,” she smiled sweetly, realizing it was kind of fun to taunt and tease him. “Do you want me to drive?”

“You’ve got a place… like a place you go? Are you trying to tell me that my gorgeous girlfriend is tatted up?”

Elana pursed her lips and opened the driver-side door of her car – hearing him exclaim something in excitement as she sat down. He was seconds behind her, plopping down inelegantly in her Honda and staring at her with so much emotion in his eyes.

“Hush,” she said simply. “And we aren’t doing this.”

“Whatever you want, kitten…” he breathed – and she felt his eyes on her as she put the car into reverse, backing out of the crowded parking lot.

“I’ll bring you back later to get your brother’s truck after we’ve grabbed something to eat – and no judgment.”

“None. Zero. Zilch.”

Ten minutes later, she pulled in front of a place with a small neon sign in the window and walked in.

“Elana! My girl! How’s it going?”

“Hey, Jimmy,” she began easily, smiling. “My friend is wanting to get a little something – and I might too.”

“Oh mannnn…” she heard from behind her and fought back a laugh.

“Hey dude,” Jimmy said easily, shaking Max’s hand. “Your girl is a baddie in the courtroom and a real angel.”

“Tell me about it,” Max said in disbelief, looking at her. “You actually know this guy – and you’ve been here?”

“A few times,” she admitted, feeling slightly embarrassed as his jaw dropped open and he looked her up and down again.

“Where?”

“Hidden.”

“All right, let’s head back as soon as you sign the release forms,” Jimmy chuckled, laughing, and hooked his thumb over his shoulder. Elana scribbled her name and looked at Max, raising an eyebrow – only to hear him chuckle again in delight as he leaned towards her.

“I’m gonna see your tattoo someday…” he breathed intimately.

“No, you’re not,” she countered in a sing-song voice, flirting with him.

“Have I mentioned just how hot I think you are?”
