“Oh my gosh,” she chuckled, shaking her head, and looked at him. “Can you help me open it? I’ve got Ember and…”

“I was going to anyway,” he murmured. “I want to see this on you and for you to think of me.”

“I always think of you, silly.”

He winked at her and opened the box toward her, smiling. Inside on the white satin was a beautiful yet simple bracelet of two wedding rings, linked to form an infinity symbol. She had seen it in a catalog from the expensive jewelry store that she’d received in the mail. Years ago, she had splurged, buying herself a refillable ink pen after a major case was won. She still received those catalogs and immediately tossed them in the recycle bin.

“You didn’t…”

“I sure did…”

“Oh Max, this was so unnecessary, and I know how expensive…”

“Nope,” he grinned. “This just screamed ‘us,’ and I wasn’t about to skip it.”

“What do you mean?”

“Uh, hello? Handcuffs?” he pointed, gesturing at the two circles that were linked wedding bands representing an infinity symbol. “I’m definitely getting you a bracelet that has handcuffs on it – remember our first meeting?”

Elana burst out laughing at her sweet, shameless, adorable husband, who was grinning like a lecher right now and wagging his eyebrows at her. This was so unexpected, and the way he was twisting it to suit them did not go unnoticed. No, he was a sweetheart and completely incorrigible and hers.

“You know those aren’t handcuffs…”

“They are in my head,” he countered.

“So you’re gonna put handcuffs on me… in the guise of jewelry?”

“Heck yes, I am…”

They shared a knowing smile as he pulled the bracelet from the box, as she held out her wrist. He fastened the bracelet on her, pulling her wrist to her lips and kissing it tenderly, murmuring ‘I love you’ against her skin.

“Forever?” she whispered softly, treasuring their relationship.

“Always.”
