“Thank you, that’s helpful.”

“You do know that it’s very hard contacting him, right?”

I wasn’t simply curious about who the man was. He was the bastard that had put Davorin in prison, and he was the only one able to get him out just as quickly as he’d framed him. It took way too long to even find someone who knew how to contact him. And then it took too long for The Rapscallion to agree to a meeting. And he didn’t exactly agree to one; more like he cornered me and revealed himself.

“Yes,” Dominik said. “But I need to speak with him as soon as possible.”

I played with the bubbles. The scent of lavender hit my nose. It wasn’t the essential oil I would usually opt for, but it was the only one I had on hand. Still, it smelled great. I had a few cuts on my thighs, and I had no idea where I’d gotten them from. Aside from that, my body was in perfect state.

“Why?”

Dominik sighed. “It seems that Bogdan is trying to reach him.”

I froze, jaw clenched. “And you want to get to him first, right?”

“Of course.”

“Don’t worry,” I tried reassuring him. “He will never work with Bogdan.”

“That’s not something you can say easily, nor guarantee.”

I rolled my eyes. “Listen, The Rapscallion isn’t just one simple-minded man. For generations, it was passed down in one family, going back to the sixties. Not once did they involve themselves in family wars. They won’t this time, either. And no matter how influential our father is, there are places even his dirty hands can’t reach.”

Dominik laughed. “You seem overly confident in that. Are you in contact with The Rapscallion?”

“Absolutely not,” I scoffed. “He’s handsome, but not my type of handsome. Speaking of which,” I tried switching the subject. “How is my man doing?”

“Taking care of everyone Bogdan sends after you, and he’s pissed. In his words, that bastard is keeping him from getting to you.”

I grinned. “Tell him to stop doing that. I can’t wait to see him again. I’ll handle everyone Father sends.”

The call ended shortly after. And once it did, I released a deep breath of relief. My body relaxed under the already cold water, but I didn’t get up yet. My eyes closed as I tried to think of what to do next.

Bogdan trying to involve The Rapscallion was not unexpected, but it was inconvenient. It meant my plan had to be sped up by a few months, and that made the game a lot less interesting. As much as it annoyed me, it made my dark heart flutter. Davorin was coming soon, and I was getting excited.

A knock came from the bathroom door as soon as I stood up.

He was quick to dress me in the bathrobe and slippers. He tied the band around my waist into a perfect bow. By the time I was in the living room, breakfast was ready, along with some tea. Of course, the tea had some extra spice: alcohol.

He stood next to me whilst I enjoyed the food. He was a good chef, one of the many qualities I liked about him. The main one was loyalty. He’d been with me for four years and would die for me, if necessary. But for now, he was living for me.

“I assume you heard the conversation.”

For my protection, all of the devices I used had a bug in them. That, and I had some trackers in my arm. I didn’t hide anything from him. If anything were to happen to me, he had to know exactly when, where, and what went down in order to protect me.

He nodded his head.

“Then we’ll proceed as planned. It also means it’s time for you to disappear. If I don’t contact you in two months, then come and get me.”

“What if there’s an emergency?”

“There better not be.” I stared at him, emotionless. Like the good boy he was, he didn’t question it and carried out every order perfectly.

“Of course.”

“Unless something drastically goes off course, assume everything is going perfectly. In the meantime, the two of you finish the tasks and prepare everything for my arrival.”

“As you wish.”
