The game was over the moment Kaya allowed herself to get caught. And as soon as I got her back, the world would know my wrath.

“Faster, Felix,” I urged, my voice loud.

When I returned, I did my best not to smash everything in this goddamn house. Felix was behind his laptop, typing away. Half of the time, he was looking through camera footage, trying to get a match and trying to speed up the process.

He had bags under his eyes; he hadn't slept for the past twenty-four hours. It had been too long since Kaya disappeared, and the people who had her hadn’t made any attempts to contact us.

Felix took off his glasses and threw them away before rubbing his eyes. He better do his job quickly, properly, and thoroughly. When it came to Kaya, there was no room for mistakes. I never allowed it.

Earlier in the morning, Felix had relocated all of his new equipment to the basement. It gave him the quietness he needed but since I was always looking over his shoulder, he was tense.

“You’re distracting me,” he said. “Breathing down my neck won’t make me find her sooner. Go upstairs, don’t bother me, and I’ll call you as soon as I get something.”

“That’s bold of you.”

“Well, it’s not like you can kill me. Either I will find her or The Rapscallion will, and I know which one you’d prefer. So, leave.”

This little motherfucker got balls overnight. I didn’t quite understand how he did it or whether I liked it or not, but he was right. With a sigh and a few cuss words, I was gone.

Then, as I reached the living room, my hand found its way to the gun that I always kept on me. Swiftly, it was in my hands, the safety was off, and I was ready to shoot. Silently, with careful steps, I approached the front door.

Eyes narrowed, all senses sharpened, I waited for the intruder to step inside.

“Lower the gun unless you want your head on the floor.”

I rolled my eyes and sighed in relief. I couldn’t have anyone disrupt Felix. Since it was none other than Dominik, my mood shifted for the better, though only slightly.

The door swung open, and he entered with Ilya in tow. He acknowledged me with a mere nod, which I ignored. Motherfucker was good but got on my nerves too much to engage in any sort of conversation with him.

“Why are you here?” I questioned, moving to the kitchen. Kaya’s cupboards were filled with alcohol. Wine, whiskey, tequila, vodka, all of it. Money wise, she had at least ten grand worth of alcohol under her roof.

I opted for Macallan, given that it was Kaya’s favorite. Ilya never drank on business, so I didn’t bother asking him if he wanted one. Dominik took the glass, sat on the couch, and, with a glance, told Ilya to wait outside.

The man listened.

“I cannot believe that you are entrusted with one single task, and you fail it.”

Blood ran thicker than water—Dominik and Kaya proved that. No one was able to rile me up as much as those two siblings did. Appearance-wise, they couldn’t look further apart. They only shared the eye color, but even their eye shape was different. However, personality-wise, they were pretty much the same.

“I’ll find her.”

He chuckled and sipped his drink. “Of course you will. You’re lucky I didn’t have enough time to inform Aleksei of this situation.”

I ignored the blatant disrespect. He was sly, trying to get under my skin. If I allowed it now, it would likely result in another manic episode, and I had no time for that. However, the look of pure distaste he was giving me was making my hands itch to hit him. It was getting harder to keep my composure.

“Speaking of Aleksei,” I said, switching the subject. “How did he react to… other news?”

“Truth be told, I can’t tell. He seemed to be taking it well, then he stormed into De Luca’s home, and that was a disaster of its own. Now, he’s back to being as calm as he could possibly be.”

“Kaya was probably taken to give out information on the twins’ whereabouts.”

He nodded his head. “I’m well aware of that. However, De Luca confirmed that he’s the only one who knows where they are.”

My jaw clenched. I gripped the glass so tightly that it snapped in my hand. It was the same hand where I had stitches from the knife play Kaya and I did. The bandages were yet again soaked in blood.

“Did he disclose their location to Aleksei?”

“Yes. However, he won’t utter a word of it. He’s skeptical and until he confirms their whereabouts, the information might as well be false.”
