Then, as if to prove his point, he took another puff of the cigarette before putting it out. He put it out on my skin, just above the spot the letter D was carved.

My jaw trembled. He wouldn’t see me fucking break. The harder he pressed the cigarette into my skin, the less movement I made. This was child’s play, despite the pain catching me off guard. It hurt like a bitch, yet it was nothing I couldn’t handle.

“How brave of you,” he complimented. The cigarette was removed, and I sighed in relief. “But let’s test out how smart you are. Maybe after this, you’ll speak.”

I swallowed in an attempt to hydrate my dry throat. It felt sore, as if I had millions of needles in my throat.

As if to fucking taunt me, with a wild smile, his motions were slow. He unbuckled his belt. My heart raced in my chest, disgust written all over my face. His fingers were on the zipper, slowly bringing it down.

This fucking lunatic was aroused. His hard dick sprang free as he continued smiling. The two men that held me brought me closer to him. I clamped my mouth shut, eyes filled with fury. He inched closer to me, slapping me with his penis on both cheeks a few times.

“If you even so much as think of shoving that thing in my mouth, I will bite it off.”

He opened his mouth to speak, then paused.

Someone knocked on the door.

THIRTEEN

DAVORIN

Blood splattered all over my shirt. The cut on his throat was straight, neat, and brought one of the merciless deaths I enjoyed so much. His eyes were wide and full of fear. Gurgling sounds slipped from his mouth and then he fell to the floor.

I cracked my back before texting the contractor that the job was done. A picture of proof was enough to get money rolling in my bank account.

Aleksei paid a lot of money for the things I did for him. The kind of money that would make the next four generations set for life. But this was still a job I enjoyed. I went through a lot of shit to get where I was, and I couldn’t stop doing it.

I didn’t want to stop doing it.

It was the only way I could blow off some pent-up anger whilst profiting off of it.

I left Kaya sleeping. Given how hard we went at it for hours, she was exhausted. Felix was there just to keep an eye on her in case things turned sour. Though, considering that she’d been asleep for a day, I had enough time to get back to her mansion before she woke up.

I was itching to find out what other, bigger secret she kept. I was paying people in exchange for information. I was clinging onto straws in hopes of getting a clue about what the fuck she had going on.

Felix had been in charge of looking into her whereabouts for the past six years, from the moment she set foot on American soil until today. I knew half of it, but the vixen was too careful.

At first, when I was hired to kill her, I gathered the most basic information I needed. She was just a teenager back then and although I missed the hit on her head, it didn’t bother me. Somehow, I knew that another opportunity would arise.

And years later, it did. This time, a beautiful woman with dangerous eyes was before me. Meeting her in the alley of that trashy club was purely coincidental—or I thought it was, until I found out she’d been keeping tabs on me before I even remembered who she was.

That danger in her eyes made me obsessed with her. She was constantly on my mind. If I wasn’t by her side, I was watching her. If she slipped through my fingers, it was hard to breathe. Our official meeting on her balcony was rushed, but it was liberating to make my presence known to her.

Who would’ve thought that in less than six months, she’d be the only person I depended on? It was calamity and nothing else. We were too far into this to ever have a life without one another, and it was the most dangerous thing that I’ve experienced.

I stepped outside of the man’s home and closed the door behind me. It was dark, and I was eager to go to my little lion.

As if I didn’t already know that my luck was shitty as fuck, my phone buzzed.

“This better be good news,” I said harshly into the phone. “Don’t tell me she gave you the slip again, Felix?”

He cleared his throat. “It wasn’t so much of a slip as it was… simply walking out of the house and driving off.”

If I squeezed the phone any tighter, it would break in half. “When?”

“A while ago.”

“And you’re only telling me this now because?”
