“I have a car pulling up in twenty-eight seconds,” Cole announces. I can’t help but smirk with how precise he always is. He doesn’t even glance up from his phone, continuing to scrub videos from the servers, at least I’m assuming that’s what he’s doing. I wish I had my phone so I could ask Ravenmaster to help.

Fuck!

I don’t have my phone anymore. Sure he’s tracked me through Cole’s phone before, but what if Cole has strengthened the security on his phone so my stalker can’t get in anymore? What if he’s done it to all their phones? How is Ravenmaster supposed to find me? This isn’t good. I don’t want to be cut off from him. He’s become as invaluable to me as any of my other men.

Stupid! I know I had a really fucking good reason for leaving my phone behind—it serves as one more piece of evidence that I was the one who died. But the damage the bomb wrought wouldn’t have left enough of the phone behind for anyone to identify it as mine. The most they’ll be able to discern is that the chunk of material used to be a phone.

I should have kept it. No matter how much careful thought I put into a plan, I always seem to fuck it up when I do things spur of the moment. Is this a sign? The universe giving me a signal that I need my men to make me a better person? That no matter how hard I try to pull things off myself, I’m always better including them in my plans?

I’m sure they’ll love it if I’m permanently separated from Ravenmaster. They’ve all voiced their displeasure of him in some way or another.

My thoughts are interrupted when Jasper pulls me into his hold. “What was Vander wanting from you? It sounded like he’s been lying about something, but his voice was so low, I couldn’t pick up everything he said,” he questions me.

Glancing up, I find Cole and Grayson have already climbed into a blacked out town car. “Do you have any secrets you’re keeping from me?”

After a pause, he grunts out a single word. “Yes.”

I shouldn’t be surprised. We barely know each other. But Jasper has always been the one to demand the truth. Although, the truth isn’t the same as divulging every single detail, now is it? Somehow I still find myself disappointed.

His answer plays into my response though. “Vander isn’t lying, he’s simply keeping a secret. One he’ll be sharing with me very soon if his demands were anything to go by.”

Jasper’s gaze fixates on the spot where Vander disappeared from view. He stares at it with suspicion furrowing his brow. After a moment, he guides me to the car, helping me climb in.

One good thing about having something similar previously planned, is that we already had our most valuable possessions and clothes packed, waiting in the SUV. Sure we have to wait until Vander finishes giving a statement, and playing the distraught bodyguard to bring the vehicle with our stuff. But it’s still nice knowing my spur of the moment plan didn’t leave us scrambling with nothing to our names on hand.

On the off chance anyone tried to find us at Cole’s ginormous house, he took us to his private jet instead. It’s fueled and parked on the tarmac ready to go. All we have to do is delay until Vander shows up, and pick a destination. We’ve been waiting for hours so far. Honestly, how long does it take to put out a fire and give a statement about having watched me enter the building? He can even attest to seeing me peering from the window of my office without lying.

Grayson is lying on the couch taking a nap with a small smile pulling at his lips. There’s a peacefulness about him that wasn’t there before. The weight of his father has been lifted, and now the rest of the people responsible for making his life a personal hell have been killed. My chest warms at the thought of being able to give this to him. Of being able to set him free to become whoever he chooses.

He rolls to his side, turning away from me, effectively breaking off my thoughts. Jasper is focused on his phone, and I can’t help but remember him admitting to keeping things from me. Now isn’t the time to bring it up, but I’m slightly pissed off about it. He wants me to tell him every little detail, and yet he isn’t willing to do the same in return.

Fucking double standards.

He reaches for me as I walk by, but I skirt around his hand on my way to Cole. He’s on his laptop. Surprise, surprise. I wonder how upset he’d be right now if he didn’t have it and had to wait for Vander to show up with the rest of our stuff. I lean over the seatback and peek at his screen over his shoulder.

“You know, Luv, I understand why you made the spur of the moment decision, but you could have looped us in ahead of time,” he muses without pausing what he’s doing on the laptop. The screen is incredibly small compared to his setup in his office at the house. It’s a cluttered mess of several boxes, which I’m sure make perfect sense to him.

“There wasn’t time,” I respond, running my fingers through his hair. “I didn’t want them to leave and lose my chance to get them. Plus, I knew you’d be able to get everything covered for us with short notice. You’re my hacking genius.” I bend down and press a kiss to his cheek.

He takes advantage of my close proximity and smoothly wraps an arm around me, pulling me onto his lap, while his other hand holds his laptop out of the way. Landing with an oomph, his arm holds me in place, putting the computer on my lap so he can continue working. His lips brush against the nape of my neck before peppering the sensitive area with kisses.

I know he’s still focused on what he’s working on since his fingers continue flying over the keyboard. Relaxing into his hold, I enjoy the moment of his affection while staring at the screen. “You know I was watching you the whole time from the security monitors. You had time to call us.” He rapidly pounds on his delete key, showing how frustrated he is with me. “They were comfortably waiting. You and I both know she wanted to make her position known as the one who owned Grayson’s balls. There’s no way she was going to leave.”

“I—”

“No, Luv. Don’t try to argue with me. You chose not to call because you didn’t want to deal with the possibility of us telling you no.” He moves the laptop to the seat next to us and turns my head to the side, shifting so my back is more on his shoulder instead of his chest so he can study my features.

Letting out a sigh, I gaze into his green eyes. “Maybe you’re right,” I mumble, hating that I’m being called on my bullshit. I’m not used to anyone standing up to me. Even Vander is calling me out lately. Back in the day he simply ignored it. Although, those were the times when he was void of personality and only capable of showing indifference.

I settle against his chest again, and Cole trails his fingers over my collarbone before gliding his hand along the side of my neck to grasp it from behind. He pulls me closer, until his lips are a hair’s breadth away from touching my ear. “Do you think your desires are darker than ours? Because I can guarantee yours are an off-white compared to the things we’ve done.”

My cunt clenches on nothing as desire rips through me. A breathy sigh escapes me, but Cole continues, ignoring the passion he sparks. “You seem to believe you’re the darkest one among us, but I have news for you, Luv. We’re the true monsters hiding in the dark.” His hand tightens his hold on my neck to the brink of cutting off my air. It’s enough to prove his point. “Your potential to match us is what draws us to you. So you don’t need to fear us telling you no. What you need to fear is us corrupting you even more—of whispering even worse ideas in your ear that you can’t turn down.”

An unbidden moan escapes me as I grip his shirt in my hands. Fuck. Why does it sound like he’s whispering the very things that make up this thing they call a love language? It’s like his words have a direct line to my clit. Each one is a firm lick against the sensitive bud, working me up to a point where I’m on the edge. The very real possibility exists where I could come from his hushed words alone.

I need to hear more. And yet… I also need his lips on mine.

Tilting my head to the side, I slowly pull away so our lips can tease at touching. As I do it, my cheek grazes his in a gentle caress that has my nipples turning into hard tips. Anticipation builds with how long I draw out my movements. His cheek lifts, and I know he’s smiling, enjoying our moment as much as me.
